Characters are data; fonts are appearance
The Kannada letter ಕ is stored as Unicode U+0C95. A font draws that character in its own visual style, but changing the font does not change the underlying text.
This separation lets the same sentence move between a browser, messaging app, database, PDF workflow, and search index without losing meaning.
Why it matters for everyday work
Unicode Kannada can be searched, copied, sorted, indexed, translated, and read by assistive technology. It also travels with the document instead of depending on one specific legacy font.
- Search engines can understand and rank the words.
- Screen readers and input tools can identify Kannada characters.
- Users can switch fonts without corrupting the content.
- Text works across modern Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux systems.
Unicode compliance is more than a new font file
A truly converted font maps its glyphs to Kannada Unicode code points and follows shaping behavior expected by modern text engines. Renaming an old ASCII font does not make it Unicode compliant.
The fonts in this catalog preserve familiar Kannada designs while making them usable with standard Unicode text.
