Why font naming metadata matters

Operating systems like Windows, macOS, and Linux organize fonts using OpenType name table records (Name ID 1 for Family, Name ID 2 for Subfamily, Name ID 4 for Full Name, and Name ID 6 for PostScript Name).

If you edit a font without updating its name table, it can clash with existing installed system fonts, causing font cache corruption or missing glyphs.

Customizing metadata on export in Lipi

When clicking Export Font in Lipi Font Studio, a Font Identity dialog allows you to specify custom Family Name, Subfamily (Regular, Bold, etc.), Version, Designer, Manufacturer, and Copyright notice.

Lipi automatically recalculates the required OpenType name records and encodes them into the exported TTF binary with valid table checksums.
